SALT OF THE EARTH
Banned in 1954 during the McCarthyite witch hunts for its radical political content, Salt of the Earth, tells the story of a strike led by Mexican workers for equal pay and safer working conditions, against a powerful American mining company.
After the striking men are viciously beaten and demoralised, their wives, mothers and daughters take over the picket line, fighting not only for the working rights of their husbands & sons, but also for their own rights as women to equality and freedom.
Based on the 1951 Silver City mining strike, Salt of the Earth is a timeless film about the struggle of men and women for equality, dignity & human rights.
