Alison grew up in a dysfunctional family and developed an eating disorder before enduring life with an alcoholic stepmother. She subsequently met and married an alcoholic, joined Overeaters Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Family Groups to deal with the legacy of those addictive behaviours and difficult relationships. Alison eventually joined Adult Children of Alcoholics to deal with the complex PTSD she suffered as a child. In ACA for over seven years now, she has gained an understanding of how her early life trauma continued to affect her adult life and how to become a nurturing parent to her inner child.
If you grew up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional family, then you can contact Adult Children of Alcoholics online at adultchildren.org.au for details of their meetings and contact information.
