War Crimes Start Here! A history of protesting arms exhibitions.

Friday, 30 August 2024 - 9:00am to 10:00am

On this edition of Acting Up! we bring you some of the history of protest against weapons exhibitions on this continent.
We have a look back into the archives and listen to some 3CR coverage of the Australia International Defence Exhibition (AIDEX) in Canberra in 1991 with an edition of the Stick Together program from 7 December 1991 where presenter Dave Sweeney reports from on the ground at the protests in Canberra.  First up we'll listen back to an episode of Uprise Radio from 21 September 2022 in the lead up to Disrupt Land Forces in Muggan Djin - Brisbane.  James Brennan and Mercedes Zanker bring some historical context to protesting weapons exhibitions with a presentation from historian Iain McIntyre (Commons Library) and an interview with researcher activist Jacob Grech (A Friday Rave).

A coalition of groups is organising the Disrupt Land Forces 2024 festival of resistance.

To follow along with 3CR coverage of Disrupt Land Forces you can go to www.3cr.org.au/dlf2024.

Friday 9:00am to 10:00am
Ratbags, Peaceniks and Agents of Change. Resistance radio that explores the movements that made us, drawing from the activist archives through to voices of resistance today. We take you under the hood to see how collectives and campaigns are formed, mobilise people, work cooperatively to transform systems of oppression and are sustained over time.
