In 2020, due to Covid-19 restrictions, Beyond the Bars was unable to get inside to present our live prison broadcasts. Instead, we recorded messages, cheerios, poems, stories, raps and short interviews with some of the inmates over the phone. We broadcast the recordings from July 6-10 bringing you the voices of the men and women from the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, Loddon/Middleton Prison, Barwon Prison, Karreenga Annex, and Fulham Correctional Centre. The Beyond the Bars 2020 prison broadcasts celebrate National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Victorian jails. 3CR would like to thank all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander inmates inside the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, Loddon/Middleton Prison, Barwon Prison, Karreenga Annex, and Fulham Correctional Centre who participated via phone in the broadcasts for National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week July 2020.
In 2020 Beyond the Bars received financial support from the Department of Justice and Community Safety, and the City of Yarra.
