Dr David Shearman - Doctors for the environment

Ancient Futures and The Economics of Happiness are the work of Helena Norberg Hodge. She says "  the more time I spent in Ladakh, the more I came to realize the importance of scale.........Ladakhis have an overview and can comprehend the structures and networks of which they are a part, seeing the effects of their actions and thus feeling a sense of responsibility. And because their actions are more visible to others, they are more easily held accountable".

She believes that localized  trade is less carbon intensive. It is at a human scale where we can act responsibly. Globalisation for example flies fish to China to be processed or Macadamia nuts to be cracked then flown back here. Her campaign INSANE TRADE alerts us to the system change we need to avert climate change.https://www.localfutures.org/programs/global-to-local/insane-trade-short-film-factsheet/

Dr  David Shearman and Dr Melissa Haswell have collaborated to alert us to the great danger of opening up new gas wells eg in the NT. WA and QLD . The methane that escapes is much more potent short term than the CO2 emissions, yet we are blithely opening new wells for short term profit. https://www.dea.org.au/the-world-may-be-nursing-a-giant-gas-bomb/

Australians  know we are in a climate emergency with a decade to turn it round, but why are we not acting like it is an emergency? David talks about his childhood memories in London, how leaders were often on the radio encouraging the war effort and thoughts of the common good.  We need leaders now who will prevent the collapse of ecosystems and help us survivehttps://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-08-28/climate-change-is-world-war-3-and-we-are-leaderless/10168962

The Doctors for the Environment Australia want no new gas wells and a stricter  regulation of existing wells. They want an independent  national  environmental authority to protect the biosphere. It is certainly "No time for games ",as our children's future is gambled away.
