“Many people who are classified as chronically ill, myself included, don’t look sick or ill. Healthy people can find this a bit of a conundrum. We can be accused of “faking it” or being a hypochondriac. Even worse, we can be criticised for doing the very things we must do to manage our various conditions,” says Robyn Dunphy who is a blogger and advocate of movement as medicine.
“With my condition, psoriatic arthritis (PsA), I must exercise. This just seems to be a red rag to a bull for the doubters because their understanding of “sick” doesn’t include things like the leg press or latissimus pull down at the gym!”
Robyn is a 67 year-old retired certified public accountant living with a chronic illness. She retired earlier than planned due to the progression of her psoriatic arthritis.
Robyn is today’s guest on our radio show brainwaves where she will talk about living with her condition, advocacy as well as her family trauma which has impacted her physically and mentally.
Join host Suzie Leach and tune in at 5pm (AEDT) on 3CR Community Radio!
