An announcement on the future of Hazelwood power station is expected any day now.
Situated in the Latrobe Valley, in eastern Victoria, Hazelwood is one of four coal-fired power stations in the region. It produces a quarter of Victoria’s electricity and is the biggest carbon emitter on the national grid.
Engie, the French company who is majority owner of Hazelwood, is reported by French newspaper Los Echos to have decided to close the power station. However, both the company and the Victorian government remain tight-lipped about any possible closure.
On this week’s show, we’ll be talking about life after Hazelwood. And the campaign for a just transition and viable future for the Latrobe Valley.
