Emerging from the vibrant tapestries of the local music scene, Cerine Ruby is a local cassette label run from Mayzie’s bedroom. Cerine Ruby releases quarterly mixtapes featuring local artists, usually shoulder tapped at local gigs. The most DIY approach possible, Mayzie handmakes every tape with love and quite a lot of swear words.
Cerine Ruby is releasing it’s second mixtape “Salt Tapes II” at Brunswick Artists Bar on the 29th of September. The launch features mixtape artists Nausicaa, and Cari S, and a DJ set from 0.5sp.
Nausicaa (naw-sik-uh) are an Ethereal Alternative Rock duo from Melbourne who create Night Music. The duo’s lush guitar-based sound mixes key influences The Cure, Cocteau Twins, and My Bloody Valentine. To them: “The night is an endless source of inspiration and symbols: stars, moon, the unknown, the gothic; as well as dreams, rest, and comfort.” Nausicaa release their new single ‘Chinatown’ on September 29th, 2023, as part of Salt Tapes ii.
Caught on the mystery of the soul, Cari Scharl's music has been described as eclectic, dreamy and imbued with feminine rage. Inspired by artists such as Bjork and Radiohead, her sound ranges from pulsating electronic soundscapes to stripped back guitar ballads. Cari released her single "Colours True" as part of Salt Tapes i in June
