The Invaders' Fear of Memories: A Play About the Colonisation of Palestine

Repeats every day 1 times.
15 Nov 2024 - 7:00pm

The MC Showroom in Melbourne will host a powerful performance of The Invaders’ Fear of Memories, a solo theatre piece written and performed by Benjamin Rivers, and directed by Linda Wise. The play is based on the life and diaries of Benjamin Rivers’ great grandfather Yousef Nachmani, a Russian Jew who migrated to Palestine in 1907 and became Director of the Jewish National Fund in the Galilee, playing a central role in the forced displacement of thousands of Palestinians.

This compelling play delves into the deeply personal and historical narrative of the colonisation of Palestine, offering audiences a vivid exploration of the origins of settler-colonialism and apartheid in modern-day Israel and occupied Palestine.

The Invaders’ Fear of Memories has been performed to audiences across Australia, France, Mexico, South Africa, and Spain with upcoming performances scheduled for Portugal, Ireland and the USA.

The show will be followed by a Q and A with Benjamin Rivers, guest actor Yousef Alreemwawi of the Avveroes Centre of Arab Culture and represenatives from APAN and Loud Jew Collective.

Net proceeds will be going to the Palestinian organisation Anar for Empowerment and Psychosocial Support.
