A gunman killed 9 people in the city of Hanau on February 19 before murdering his mother and killing himself, leaving a neo nazi manifesto behind. In response there has been a huge wave of protests and vigils across Germany speaking out against the rise of the far right AFD party in recent years and the associated proliferation of racist and fascist ideology which underpins such violent hate crimes.
