Twisted guitar legend, Stu Spasm is also known as Stu Art Gray and he’s perhaps most infamous as the leader of the late 80’s noisy, mutant-musical marauders Lubricated Goat.
From his beginnings as a wild Adelaide youth, kicking things off with Tex Perkins in Salamander Jim back in 1984, or time spent in the Beasts Of Bourbon, Stu’s warped creativity and inimitable guitar style have always been front and centre.
Wild and crazy tours with Lubricated Goat across Australia, Europe and the U.S. soon led to touching down in Seattle and founding Crunt with then-wife Kat Bjelland of Babes In Toyland and Blues Explosion drummer Russell Simins, before finally settling into the the fertile muck of the Lower East Side noise rock scene of the early 1990’s.
Gary’s wayward path through the touchstones of noise, grunge and swamp-rock history is well-represented in the sound of his latest combo, The Art Gray Noizz Quintet.
Starring some of New York City’s more notorious players about town including Rich Hutchins of Live Skull, Skeleton Boy of Woman, Andrea Sacco, Grace Bergere, and sax-stress Nikki D’Agosino.
With a solid pack of partners-in-crime and reputation for their series of swinging, savage live gigs their self titled Art Gray Noizz Quintett LP out on Bang Records adds another chapter to this solidly sordid musical history.
