ZAMPONISTAS
Australia’s premier Bolivian Pan Pipe Marching Band - the Zampoñistas bring their colourful ponchos, haunting panpipes, drums and singing roving shows anywhere fun is appreciated.
This Melbourne based band is made up of musicians with a passion for the haunting and exciting panpipe music of the remote altiplano (high plain) of the Andes.
The Zampoñistas play mostly traditional tunes of the Inca people, and they play it in the pre-Spanish Inca way. This involves a unique and fascinating splitting up of the musical scale so that half the notes are played by one set of players (called Ira) and the other half of the scale are played by the other musicians (called Arca).
The Incas pioneered stereo sound! The Zamponistasrepertoire has expanded to include original pieces and tunes from other cultures. ¡Viva los Zampoñistas!
PRELO
Vocal ensemble Prelo is dedicated to preserving and treasuring traditional Serbian folk music.
We would like to invite you to join us on our musical journey which starts with beautiful songs of Kosovo and Metohia, the south of Serbia. You may recognize some of these songs, once lovingly performed by our renowned artists such as
Ksenija Cicvaric, Stanisa Stosic, Mara Djordjevic, Jordan Nikolic and many others. Although their faces and voices may be fading from the memory, we are here to remind you about them and to carry on the tradition.
In sharing our journey, we hope to bring back happy memories and inspire you by the powerful and colourful sounds of the rich Serbian musical heritage.
