The month of October this year will mark forty years of Jazz on a Saturday. On 2 October 1976 in 3CR’s first studio off High Street in Armadale, Roger Beilby and John Smyth faced each other across the Studio 2 panel (handmade from discarded ABC equipment) for the first edition of Jazz on a Saturday, presented then as now on behalf of the Victorian Jazz Club. Join the program’s presenters at a small public celebration held at 7.30pm THIS Wednesday 19 October at the Victorian Jazz Club’s monthly night at the East Malvern RSL. By happy coincidence, the band playing that night will be Radio Days. Supporters of the program are welcome to attend to help celebrate the anniversary in true jazz style.
From Monday 10 October right through to Saturday 19 November join us at 8-8.30 am each Monday to Saturday, as we delve into our rich archive and bring you half an hour of historical gems! 40 days of historical audio to celebrate 3CR’s 40 years of radical radio.
THIS Sunday 9 October from 12-4pm the station opens up its doors to the community and invites you to come in and celebrate 40 years of radical radio. Face painting for the kids, stalls, rolling station tours and the launch of the 3CR 40th birthday t-shirt. There'll be something for everyone! Getting to the station is easy, but parking around 21 Smith Street, Fitzroy, is very difficult and we strongly recommend that you walk, cycle or catch public transport to the day. See you there!
