This show features a talk by Lorraine Rekmans, member of the Serpent River First Nation and president of the Green Party of Canada. She speaks about working conditions in the uranium mining industry in Canada and the rights of first nations whose lands are being mined. She is speaking from personal experience of her family and there are striking similarities to the uranium mining industry in Australia, where radioactive racism means First Nations communities are disproportionately impacted.
This talk was part of a webinar called Nuclear power: Insecure, Unsafe, Unsustainable, hosted by the Trade Union Advisory group of UK’s CND. It took place in June 2022. The podcast image is a screenshot from the webinar and shows the miners' memorial that is mentioned in the show.
