Tunnerminnerwait & Maulboyheenner Commemoration 2023

Friday, 20 January 2023 - 12:00pm to 12:30pm
Dale - Muddy Feather Foot, speaking at the Tunnerminnerwait & Maulboyheenner Commemoration 2023.

In 1842 two indigenous freedom fighters, Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner, were the first men executed in Victoria for having the audacity to resist the British colonisation of their lands and the destruction of their people and their way of life.  Each year, on January 20, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Freedom Fighters Day, the Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner Commemoration Committee holds a public ceremony at the Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner memorial on the corner of Victoria and Fanklin Streets, Melbourne, to honour the indigenous men, women and children who, during the colonisation process, were killed for protecting their lands, their families, their culture.

On this year's broadcast we hear from:  Dr.Joe Toscano (Anarchist World This Week),  Aunty Janette Rowe - Boon Wurrung elder, Les Thomas - Country/folk music singer/songwriter,  N'arweet Dr. Carolyn Briggs - Yaluk-ut Weelam and Boon Wurrung elder,  Dale 'Muddy Feather Foot' - Gunditjmara, Jacob Rumbiak - Spokesperson for the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) & Leonie from Wonthaggi.
