Urban Food Production with Dr Chris Williams

Sunday, 21 July 2024 - 10:00am to 10:30am
Fare Share Crop Growing at Clayton South

Dr Chris Williams teaches Horticulture at Melbourne University's Burnley Campus. The Field Station at Burnley has been teaching horticulture, including the cultivation of food plants, since the early days of the colony. Continuing with this tradition, Chris teaches a post-graduate course,  Food Production for Urban Landscapes,  in which he puts urban agriculture in its historical context, teaches the fundamental skills for successful food growing and questions the potential for urban agriculture to meet the needs of city dwellers in the modern world.

Chris has been closely associated with urban agriculture through his expert contributions to Cultivating Community, The Collingwood Childrens Farm, Fare Share, The United African Farm and Farm Raiser, and understands well the challenges of small scale food production in an urban context.
