National Liberation Marxism & Western Marxism - Vijay Prashad Tour

1 Nov 2024 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm

In the aftermath of the October Revolution of 1917, two distinct trends opened up in the world communist movement. The defeat of the German Revolution in 1918 set in motion a break between the Marxist intelligentsia and the working-class movement. This break proceeded to develop a philosophical Marxism that remained outside the ranks of the workers’ movement. This has been called Western Marxism. However, Marxism entered the colonised parts of the world through the experience of anti-colonialism. This experience produced variants of National Liberation Marxism.

In this talk, Vijay Prashad will elaborate on this form of Marxism, and the relevance of this approach today.
