7:15AM // Speaking at the community forum "Your Taxes Fund Weapons", held in Coburg on Tues 29 October, is Mary Merkenich, former teacher, AEU (Aus Edu Union) state councillor and climate activist and feminist who writes for Green Left. Mary speaks about deficits in government schools which could easily be fixed if funds were redirected from submarines to public education. In a second speech, Mercedes Zanker, community organiser and anti-military researcher with Renegade Activists, gives background to the arms industry in Australia and the normalisation of militarisation in our society by the federal government.
