The colonisation of Australia was a brutal affair that continues to have a profound impact on First Nations people, as well as the rest of Australians. This undeclared war was carried out in secret by settler culture that was based on theft, rape and murder. While most indigenous Australians who died in this undeclared war were poisoned, starved, shot on sight, hacked to pieces or victims of germ warfare, Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner were publicly executed in Melbourne on the 20th January 1842 for daring to resist the colonisers.

Tunnerminnerwait, Maulboyheenner, Pyterruner, Truganini and Planobeena where five members of 16 Aborigines that had been selected from the 88 survivors, on Flinders Island, of the three decade long genocidal war in Tasmania, who were brought across to Victoria by George Augustus Robinson to “civilise the Victorian blacks”. Their armed incursions into the Westernport region in Victoria caused consternation among the settlers in Melbourne.
