The proposed Religious Discrimination Bill: Hurting the vulnerable for political advantage?

Friday, 10 December 2021 - 10:00am to 10:30am

Jacques and Jennifer continue discussion from two weeks ago about the Religious Discrimination Bill being proposed by the federal government.

They discuss how it would legalise discrimination and nastiness by religious institutions, based on rather arbitrary Statements of Belief they draw up themselves.

Leading up to a federal election, it seems the government thought there was some political advantage in pressing the Bill, however this has spectacularly backfired with revolt in the PM’s own ranks. While this has slowed down the process, and the Bill may not go to a parliamentary vote before the election, the battle is far from over and Jacques and Jennifer urge listeners to keep up the pressure.
