Each year during NAIDOC Week 3CR presents Beyond the Bars - prison radio shows featuring the stories, poems, songs and opinions of Aboriginal men and women in the Victorian prison system.  The 2015 Beyond the bars CD of broadcast highlights will be launched at Friends of the Earth Food Cooperative on Thursday October 29, 6.30-8.30pm.  

Artist and Earth Matters producer, Corey Green has made a recent addition to our sidewall mural. Corey has spent many an hour in deep discussion in our courtyard with 3CR's Aboriginal programmers and consulted Fire First's Robbie Thorpe on the concept and design.  

Our podcast of the month is Women on The Line's 'Sounds of Feminism' produced by Nicole Curby. The program explores: What would a feminist methodology sound like? That's the question that sound festival Liquid Architecture is posing.We hear profound performances from Celeste Liddle (pictured), Evelyn Ida Morris, and Makiko Yamamoto, plus a conversation with Liquid Architecture's artistic director, Danni Zuvela. 3CR's Women on the Line and Melbourne Anarchist Bookfair recently facilitated a conversation between two staunch women about decolonisation and the free movement of people. Meriki Onus from Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance and Lucy Honan of the Refugee Action Collective discuss the parallels between their struggles that challenge the border, the nation state, and the violence used to uphold them. Tune in to Beyond the Bars in 2015 to hear Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners on the airwaves. The project features radio shows broadcast live from six Victorian prisons during NAIDOC Week 6-10 July 2015. ‘The main purpose of these broadcasts,’ explains Koori Survival Show broadcaster Gilla McGuinness, ‘is to connect our people in the prison system back to family and culture on the outside during NAIDOC Week.’ Download the poster. Join the live audience and hear discussions from 3CR breakfast presenters on local sustainability issues, from setting up cheap renewable energy and workers co-operatives to urban agriculture and building resilient communities in the Yarra area from Monday-Friday, March 23-27, 7am-8:30am.

This year marks the 173rd anniversary of the execution of the two Freedom Fighters: Tunnerminnerwait & Maulboyheenner. They were executed on 20 January 1842 on the corner of Bowen & Franklin Streets Melbourne. 3CR will again be broadcasting the commemoration LIVE on Tuesday 20 January from 12 - 1pm on 855AM, digital and streaming.
