Each year The Boite and Music Sans Frontieres invite musicians and singers to donate 3 songs, in an acoustic concert at The Boite World Music Cafe, 1 Mark Street, North Fitzroy. Each year it’s a spectacularly creative and entertaining night of music that raises money for the 3CR Radiothon. In a year when significant music programs and broadcasters have been cut from national radio, the importance of shows like Music Sans Frontieres on broadcasters like 3CR cannot be overstated. It becomes harder and harder for local musicians to get a hearing! 3 Songs for 3CR is an opportunity to show support and ensure the healthy, ongoing life of Music Sans Frontieres on 3CR. Monday Greek presenter Vasilis Papaioannu (pictured with Station Manager Rachel Kirby) brought in over $5,000 worth of donations from his community this week. 'It's hard, but it's always such a pleasure to raise money to support the good work of 3CR', says Vasilis, known around the station as Bill the Greek. This week we launch Radio for Change Radiothon 2017! At 6.30pm Aziza Hussein (pictured) takes to the airwaves with  this year's first Radiothon program - Nile Show. Once again Matt Gleeson will be hosting Burning Vinyl from The Old Bar every Friday in June from 2pm. There will be bands, beers, mulled wine, an open fire and most of all we will be raising much needed funds to help keep the station on air. Each year on May 1 (International Workers' Day), communities from around the world join in to celebrate the achievements of the labour movement and to show solidarity with the continued struggle for labour rights everywhere. It’s a no-brainer that keeping Melbourne's diverse community radio stations on air is vital for the soul of our city, but them bills, they gotta get paid. To help out, a posse of much-loved community radio presenters are putting on a big, bold night to raise funds for 3CR at the Bella Union on Thursday 27 April. Kick off is at 7pm and the evening includes Kate n Suzy from Lazy Wednesday spinning tracks, comedy with Fiona Scott-Norman, the official launch of the second edition of Ian McFarlane's The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop, and a live Superfluity show.
