Mitigating and adapting to climate change

Monday, 14 March 2022 - 8:30am to 9:00am
A photograph of a king tide on Saibai Island from 2010. A building on stilts is surrounded by high seawater, covering the ground and almost reaching the base of the building. Fences and plants in the foreground are partially submerged, and other buildings on stilts are visible in the background.

Today's show features two women working towards climate justice in so-called Australia: Tishiko King, Campaign Director at Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network, and Emma Bacon, Executive Director of the Sweltering Cities project.

Tishiko, a proud Torres Strait Islander woman with connections to Masig and Badu Islands, speaks about climate vulnerability and fighting for climate justice in Zenadth Kes/the Torres Strait Islands. Emma discusses the effects of rising temperatures on urban heat stress and why urban infrastructure needs to both adapt to and mitigate climate change.
