Thursday, 24 June 2021 - 11:30pm to Friday, 25 June 2021 - 12:30am

The Tiger Lillies are an operatic, folk, punk-rock cabaret trio formed in 1989 by singer-songwriter Martyn Jacques who are described as the forefathers of Brechtian Punk Cabaret and well known for their unique sound and style that mergesthe macabre magic of pre-war Berlin with the savage edge of punk.

Matt Groening called the Tiger Lillies  his favourite favourite band and the UK based trio have toured extensively including shows in Moscow, Prague and Melbourne, Australia.

They've  put out  a mind boggling 50 or so releases and their latest album (available on Bandcamp) is topically titled Requiem For A virus which was recorded in Athens  earlier in 2021 and features multi-instrumentalists  Martyn Jacques,  Adrian Stout, and Timm Brockmann.

Singer and songwriter Martyn Jacques says: ‘The album is inspired by Carmina Burana, a collection of 254 poems written by wandering poets, vagrants and singers from the 11th and 12th century. They cover greed, fate, hypocrisy, stupidity, sexual desire and death. The Tiger Lillies have taken them and applied them to 2021. A Requiem to A Virus, Fear and Chaos. A thousand years has gone by, but nothing changes.’

Listen to Martyn Jacques introduce the new Tiger Lillies album Requiem for a virus with Paul Elliott on Planet X.
